Informed Misery
Music, Poetry, Art & Randomness

I wrote this song when I was around nineteen, but it wasn't until a few years ago that I gave it a title and recorded it in my friend Sean's basement.

The "B" section is a variation on the Andalusian cadence from flamenco music, substituting G major for Em in the traditional chord progression. (At least in this recording. When playing the song I will sometimes play Em there.) You can check out the leadsheet here.

For Delray Sawyer

Goodbye, sweet girl
Now rest your head
The final race is won
No more lures for you to chase
No more laps to run

The finish line
At last is crossed
There's no more track to sweep
So take a bow and close your eyes
You've earned a peaceful sleep

Informed Misery

Keep your ignorant bliss;
Give me informed misery
Better to wallow in painful truth
Than live a painless lie
